Hawks Gear Up and Look Back on an Unprecedented Season

In the past months, the class of 2021 has dealt with many losses, grief, and constant change. Yet in the sea of uncertainty, the Forest Hills Eastern Football team has managed to secure a season full of wins, anchoring our community together even in these times of social isolation. This season has been full of obstacles; yet, the shorter practices, constantly changing COVID-19 restrictions, and long periods of social distancing have done little to siphon…

Ribbons for Mr. Hollern

During quarantine, Forest Hills Eastern suffered the loss of our beloved assistant principal, Mr. Tim Hollern. On October 17th, the football game against Catholic Central served as a fundraiser in Mr. Hollern’s honor. To raise money, the cheerleading team was tasked with selling small, $2 ribbons. The cheer team alone was able to raise over $400 in ribbon profits and additional donations, with all proceeds going to the Van Andel Institute for cancer research. At…

Soccer Team Shake-Up

Just as the soccer season was coming to a close, tragedy struck. One of the varsity athletes contracted COVID-19, resulting in 16 of the 23 athletes being quarantined for two weeks. Because of this, the entire JV soccer team was temporarily pulled up, playing as the varsity soccer team until Thursday, October 8th. The JV athletes played three games, and tied 0-0 against Cedar Springs, lost 2-1 against Ottawa Hills, and won 1-0 against Wayland…

Games Without Fans – How This Fall Season Will be Like No Other

With all of the uncertainty we have faced this year, both athletes and parents are relieved that fall sports have begun their seasons. However, this season won’t feel the same without fans filling the bleachers. Forest Hills Public schools are only allowing two guests per athlete to attend the games this year. This policy not only affects the schools, but their students as well. Sporting events are one of the primary sources of income the…

COVID-19 Cannot Stop Hawk Athletes

While the Forest Hills community stews in anticipation of the governor’s confirmation of the end of the school year, the notion that students will not be returning to FHE has been accepted by many Eastern families. While this affects students statewide, a specific sect of students’ routines have been altered drastically. Hawk athletes who participate in spring sports have been swindled out of a whole season—a season for which many have been preparing for nearly…

Varsity Cheer Wraps up Their 19-20 Season

The Forest Hills Eastern Varsity Cheerleading team had their districts competition on Friday night. They beat their record high scores in both rounds two and three and came in eighth place out of thirteenth. Only the top four teams advance to the regional competition, so, unfortunately, this was the team’s last time hitting the mat. The team feels that they had a very successful season, even among the various injuries and sicknesses. Head coach Brittany…

Meet The Senior Bird-Dog Hockey Players

This year, the FHNE Boy’s Varsity Hockey Team has had a very successful season, partially thanks to three seniors from Eastern: Ryan Endres, Ryan Afton, and Kyler Lowden. These players have led their team to 10 season wins thus far and a 10 game winning streak that was recently lost to FHC. These boys have a rigorous schedule; they practice three days during the school week for an hour and a half each day and…

Cate Vansolkema (‘20) enjoys spending time with friends and family and she loves playing volleyball. As a four-year varsity volleyball player, Cate is a defensive-specialist/libero on the school’s team this year.
