Eastern learns leadership

There are many great leaders in history such as Mahatma Gandhi, Abraham Lincoln, George Washington, and Julius Caesar. What does it take to be a great leader?

Learning from other leaders can also help you develop your leadership skills. As you observe the style of other leaders, you can incorporate what impresses you into your own leadership style. Asking for other leaders’ advice can also contribute to your understanding of leadership. Another way to develop your leadership skills is through practice. If you struggle with being decisive, you can practice making choices. Practice will render decision-making easier for you as a leader. If collaborating with others is a challenge for you, consider committing to a project or taking a class that requires collaboration.

The seniors at Eastern are learning and applying leadership skills every week by doing various activities. Take the lead classes are focused on improving these seniors’ skills. They are working with volunteer leaders of the real world to learn what it means to be a good leader and how to get everyone involved. If they are good they can greatly improve the chances of participation and respect of the members.

“Leadership is the capacity to translate vision into reality,” said Warren Bennis, a pioneer in leadership research, and it is generally a leader’s responsibility to develop a vision for the people and institutions they direct. They also need to effectively communicate their priorities to others and inspire them to commit to those goals as well. Leadership does not depend on one’s title. Leaders can emerge at any level if they can motivate those with whom they collaborate to strive toward a common goal. Such as regional or state championships.

For me, the following qualities are essential in a team captain. First, a captain has to be competitive. Second, they have to be a hard worker. Third, and this can’t be overlooked, they have to be kind and helpful teammates. Fourth, they have to care about how the team does. Finally, they should be a model teammate. In other words, the team captain should embody the positive qualities of your team. Not everyone is born with great leadership skills. In fact, it is hard to find a person who is a natural leader. And while team members are all expected to be hardworking and committed to their activity, we cannot rule out the fact that each has his or her own set of personal values and individual goals.
