This week is the first week of spring sports! Although, it doesn’t really feel like spring. It snowed all day on Monday, causing the first week to be less than ideal, especially for the sports that held tryouts. The track and field, baseball, crew, lacrosse, softball, girls tennis, and girls soccer teams are all hosting tryouts or practices in the three gyms here at Forest Hills Eastern.
Due to the cold, snowy weather, the girls tennis team resorted to playing at the MVP gym all the way in Rockford! They only had one to two courts available for all 15 people. “The driving was probably the least of our worries because the conditions we were facing didn’t allow us to perform at our full abilities,” sophomore Ava Hoogterp traumatically explains.
The girls lacrosse team held tryouts at the Northern Middle School gym. Naomi Lindner (‘25) explains how cramped the space was for their team’s tryout. Luckily, the FHE Track and Field team is used to practicing inside sometimes. The throwers used indoor shot puts and practiced in the great hall. The sprinters and jumpers practiced in the main gym while the middle and long-distance runners ran about four miles out in the freezing snow and rain.
Hopefully, for the rest of the week and into next week we see better weather to really get the spring season going!
