Long ago, Shakespeare penned Romeo and Juliet, one of the most famous pieces of literature to date. In the tale, which is arguably the greatest love story ever written, Romeo Capulet says, “What’s in a name? That which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet.” This got me thinking about what truly is in a name, which led me down a rabbit hole of interesting and out-there names that celebrities frequently name their children. Get ready to hear some of the best (or worst) celebrity baby names!
Pilot Inspektor Lee
The son of actors Jason Lee (known for his role as Dave in the Alvin and the Chipmunks trilogy) and Beth Riesgraf, the 19-year-old got his namesake from a band called Grandaddy’s song, “He’s Simple, He’s Dumb, He’s the Pilot.” The name didn’t come with the suggested career, and it seems like Pilot Inspektor is focusing on digital production.
Apple Martin
Apple is the eldest child of Coldplay frontman Chris Martin and actress Gwenyth Paltrow and was one of the first celebrity children born with a shockingly strange name. Gwenyth, who has an uncommon name herself, said that they decided to call her Apple because Chris thought it was “so sweet.”
Poppy Honey Rosie Oliver, Petal Blossom Rainbow Oliver, Daisy Boo Pamela Oliver, River Rocket Blue Dallas Oliver, and Buddy Bear Maurice Oliver
Jamie Oliver and Juliette Norton had a blast when they named their children. There’s honestly not much that I can say about the names, but the fact that the most typical name is Daisy Boo Pamela truly says something about the direction the celebrity chef went in when choosing his children’s lifelong monikers.
X Æ A-12 Musk and Exa Dark Sideræl Musk
Elon Musk and his ex-partner Grimes were known for being extremely eccentric, so it makes sense that they’d give their kids very original names. In fact, X Æ A-12’s name got into some legal trouble in California, as the state doesn’t allow numbers to be incorporated into birth names. According to Grimes, their kids go by X and Y, so chances are they’ll be great at algebra.
Tennessee Toth
You can’t say that Reese Witherspoon and Jim Toth don’t have some hometown pride, as they named their son after the state where they own one of their many estates. While the couple primarily resides in Los Angeles rather than Nashville, they obviously are big fans of the state, despite neither one of them growing up there. Tennessee’s name is drastically different than his half-siblings, as they’re called Ava and Deacon.
While these names may not be super common, they’re all interesting and meaningful, which means that they’re great in their own way! Let some of these names serve as a reminder that you should really think through what moniker your child will have!
