Goldfish for Good: Kids’ Food Basket in Partnership with Forest Hills

Although the rivalries between Eastern and teams like Catholic Central or East Grand Rapids are considerable, there is nothing that matches the spirit of competition between the Forest Hills Schools themselves. This Thursday, December 1st, Kids’ Food Basket will use this rivalry for cause at the Kids’ Food Basket basketball scrimmage between the Eastern and Northern teams.

The games will be held in the FHE main gym, with the Freshman and JV teams playing at 5:00 and the Varsity team playing at 7:00. This is an event for all ages, so bring your family and friends, Hawks! For those who aren’t fans of basketball, there will be decorating stations for Kids’ Food Basket brown paper lunch bags.

It isn’t just the Northern and Eastern basketball teams that will be facing off Thursday–the Northern and Eastern drumlines will be competing at halftime in an epic, battle-of-the-bands fashion. The drumlines have been practicing together, but they are prepared to leave it all on the court in the legendary band brawl.

To support the needs of Kids’ Food Basket, admissions to the game will come in the form of donations, specifically different types of crackers. Eastern attendees will bring Goldfish packages, and Northern participants will bring Cheez-its packages. At the end of the week, all donations will be counted–whichever school brings the most of their selected cracker will be crowned the winner during halftime of the varsity game. Cracker donations must be brought as a form of admission, but they can also be brought to school the week of November 28th – December 2nd to help Kids’ Food Basket even further. Donations should be turned in at the high school’s main office.

Eastern clubs such as the Kids’ Food Basket club and the National Honors Society work closely with Kids’ Food Basket, a local organization whose mission is to ensure that all children in the greater Grand Rapids area have access to nutritious food. It is important that we as a school continue this commitment! Support Kids’ Food Basket and your school this Thursday by bringing a pack of Goldfish and attending the game.
