Music Man – Manuel Rose

Former tennis player and current musician, high school senior Manuel Rose is a force to be reckoned with. The youngest in a family of seven, Manuel (Manny) strives to do and be the best he can.

Growing up in such a large family, Manny felt pressured to be his best and to strive to be better. With the pressure of older siblings, he knew that to mark his place within his family, he would have to push himself further than he thought was even possible.

Picking up the cello at the prime age of eleven, Manny showed his family that he had a path. When asked why he decided to choose the cello over another instrument he responded saying, “my father actually wanted me to play the bass originally, but seeing as how I was only eleven and quite short for my age I decided to pick up the cello.”

Playing since 6th grade, Manny has been grateful for the support of his parents, explaining that “my parents must be my biggest role models. They are just so influential, and they’ve helped shape me into how I act and who I truly am today.” He sees them as a guiding role in his life.

In his free time, Manny likes to read, play video games, practice playing the cello, and is entranced by art – creating many of his own original pieces. A few of his favorite games include but are not limited to, Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Ghosts of Tsushima, and Horizon Zero Dawn.

After graduation, Manny plans to attend Hillsdale College, though like many he is not completely sure what he wants to major in, throwing ideas out such as cinematography, or even pursuing music. Through all of his hard work, one can tell that nothing is going to stop Manny Rose from achieving his goals.

Manny Rose’s spirit is unrelenting and is a force to be reckoned with. He is truly someone to look up to. If there is anything we can learn from Manuel, it is that trying your hardest and putting in the work will pay off. It may be difficult now, but it will get easier and the success one will feel from this is insurmountable.
