FHE Zodiacs

Zodiac signs, which are based on your birthday, can supposedly predict one’s personality, interests, and skills. For example, people born under the Pisces sign (February 19th – March 20th), are usually creative, generous, and empathetic. Certain traits may also be determined by which element your specific zodiac sign belongs to. For example, people born under fire signs (Aries, Leo, Sagittarius) tend to be passionate, creative, and authoritative, while water signs (Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces) tend to be more sensitive and sentimental.

Zodiac signs often come with certain assumptions, both positive and negative ones. While people born under the Scorpio sign (October 23rd – November 21st) tend to be very ambitious and determined, they are also infamous for being manipulative and aggressive. The amount of positive and negative traits attached to these signs prompt people to generalize and make assumptions about others before getting to know the individual.

This information fascinates not only myself, but many students at Forest Hills Eastern, causing the journalism class to pose the question: “which zodiac sign is the most common at Eastern?” After compiling the birthdays of all FHE students, we have found that the most common star sign is Cancer (June 21st – July 22nd), represented by 10.2% of the student body. These people tend to be sensitive, self-protective, and humorous.

Taurus came in a close second place, with 10.1% of the student body being born between April 20th and May 20th. People born under the Taurus sign tend to be stubborn, practical, and ambitious. Coming in 3rd place are the Aquarians  (January 19th, February 18th), represented by 9.5% of Hawks. Aquarians tend to be independent, easygoing, and assertive.

Fourth place goes to the Libras, who came in at  9.3%. Libras, who are born between the dates of September 23rd and October 22nd, are clever, diplomatic, indecisive, and tend to be one of the most beloved star signs. The Pisces sign takes 5th place with 8.7% of the student body being born between February 19th and March 20th. Pisces tend to be bookworms, and struggle between their own fantasy worlds and reality. The Leo, Virgo, and Gemini signs all tied for sixth place with 8.4% of the student body being born under each sign. Leos, who are born between July 23rd and August 22nd tend to be intelligent, courageous, and energetic. Virgos, who are born between August 23rd and September 22nd, tend to be kind, timid, and secretive. Geminis, born between May 21st and June 20th, are optimists, intelligent, and also have a tendency to be two-faced.

The trailblazing Aries sign takes 9th place, with 7.1% of Hawks being born between March 21st and April 19th. Aries always speak their mind, and are impulsive but loyal. Scorpios take 10th place, with 6.9% of Eastern students born under the water sign. Scorpios, born between October 23rd and November 21st, are independent, passionate, and are not afraid to express their own opinions, even if they’re controversial. The Capricorns clock in at 11th place, with only 6.7% of the student body being born under this sign. Capricorns are hardworking, determined, and adaptive.

Last but not least, in 12th place is the Sagittarius sign, with only 6.4% of Eastern students born between the dates of November 22nd and December 21st. People born under the Sagittarius sign tend to be brutally honest, strong-willed, and imaginative.
