Model United Nations Club, run by Ms. Brasic, attended the Great Lakes Invitational Model United Nations (GLIMUN) conference last Wednesday through Saturday. The students simulated the actual United Nations, representing countries in committees that worked to solve global issues. Some of the issues that the committees addressed included Ebola, Eradication of Poverty, and Preventing the Illicit Arms Trade.
Eastern’s United Nations team returned with several awards.
Mia Tepic was awarded Best Delegate in the World Health Organization.
Gaurang Vaidya was awarded Best Delegate in the Disarmament and International Security Committee.
Grant Center was awarded an Honorable Mention in the Social Humanitarian and Cultural
Spencer Peters was awarded an Honorable Mention in the United Nations Security Council.
Kyle Korte was awarded an Honorable Mention in the Special Political Committee.
Grant Centner, Kyle Korte, and Gaurang Vaidya were awarded Best Delegation in the General Assembly for their representation of China.
Vipul Adusumilli, club president, reflected on his last GLIMUN, saying “my favorite part, especially this year, was spending time with my peers outside of school and bonding with them. Everyone has busy schedules during school, but during GLIMUN I got to spend time with people I normally don’t and it was fun.”
