The Artist Within

By Kennedy Pfeiffle

Meet Ella Bowen

This is Ella Bowen, she is a sophomore and has a hidden talent…She is an amazing artist! When asked how long she has been captivated by this skill or hobby, she said “I’ve been doing art the second I came out of the womb, at least that’s what I always say.” She has no artistic limits, she enjoys creating things, whether it is sewing, videography, drawing, writing music, or even cooking. Her interests fluctuate, but remain to shock everyone with the skill and care she puts into them.  Capitalizing on her skill, Ella was able to attend a program at the USCA in downtown Grand Rapids this summer, being paid to do something she loves. Ella continues to break down the stereotypes of “art kids.” She is bubbly and lively and a joy to talk to.

When asked what she wants Eastern to know or think about,  Ella responded: “…Overall, not assuming what someone is like just because they are interested in the arts, I think there are big stereotypes that follow every single interest. Like with arts you have the stereotype of the quiet kids, that kinda thing. And then with like sports and “popular girls” and all that stuff and I just wish that could go away, and what I want to accomplish with that is knowing, there’s nothing wrong with sitting in math class and drawing cartoons in your journal or doing all the popular things. You don’t have to limit yourself to one thing. And I feel like that is what is so cool about art, and that is what I want people to know about art.”  If we follow Ella’s advice, and go outside our social group, think creatively, and make the life you’re living just a little bit of everyday art.
